Toccata & Fuga MMXX

for Carillon, in A minor	pour Carillon, en la mineur
Jean-Pierre Vial composed this toccata and fugue in 2020. The toccata begins and ends with twelve strokes which strike noon or midnight, ad libitum. The body of the toccata develops a theme, first on the keyboard in A minor, then to the pedal in G minor. This theme will become the subject of the three-voice fugue that follows. The fugue, in A minor, contains all the elements of a classical fugue (i.e., subject, counterpoint, developments, stretto, coda, etc.). The piece is designed for a four-octave carillon. More precisely, the keyboard range must extend from C#4 through A6 (International Pitch Notation – IPN) and the pedal range must extend from D3 through G4. The score of this piece is published by Universal Edition. The work is registered with SACEM. ●	Jean-Pierre Vial composa cette toccata et fugue en 2020. La toccata débute, et finit, par douze coups qui sonnent, ad libitum, midi ou minuit. Le corps de la toccata développe un thème, d'abord au clavier en la mineur, puis à la pédale en sol mineur. Ce thème va devenir le sujet de la fugue à trois voix qui suit. La fugue, en la mineur, contient tous les éléments d'une fugue classique (c-à-d., sujet, contrepoint, développements, strette, coda, etc.). La pièce est écrite pour un carillon de quatre octaves. Plus précisément, le clavier doit s'étendre depuis l'ut#3 jusqu'au la5 (en notation française) et la pédale doit s'étendre depuis le ré2 jusqu'au sol3. La partition de cette pièce est publiée par Universal Edition. L'œuvre est référencée auprès de la SACEM. ●
