This short piece was initially composed for oud, and for its performer Marina Toshich who premiered it during a concert in Tel Aviv–Yaffa, Israel, in September 2012. She performed it again, and made a live recording of it, in August 2015. To audience from “old Europe,” oud music sounds as those medieval songs which tell of a romance between a knight and a sheperdess, often named Marian (or, maybe, Marina?). Quite logically, a song based on this “pastourelle” (pastorale) could tell of the romance between Maid Marian and Robin ... Oud. As is tradition in Eastern music, Marina Toshich improvises certain ornaments that supplement the written scores. This short piece was specially composed for cellist Mirel Iancovici who premiered it during a cello festival in Zutphen, the Netherlands, in August 2015. He performed it again in Maastricht, the Netherlands, in December 2015. The one-minute piece is meant to help the audience meditate during a “minute of silence” (but not soundlessness). Among the many Italian phrases that tell how instrumentalists should perform a piece, Silenzioso is the least frequently used by composers, indeed. In 1917, Brazilian flutist and clarinetist Zequinha de Abreu (1880–1935) composed one of the most popular Brazilian choros, “Tico-Tico no Fubá.” In 2012, Jean-Pierre Vial composed Tico-Tico Revisitado, a short piece for flute that re-uses the rhythm of, and a few quotations from “Tico-Tico no Fubá.” Flutist Osnat Youssin recorded this piece in March 2015. Jean-Pierre Vial composed this short piece for the Third Wheel Trio (Karin Kantenwein Fabiero, flute, Laura Stoutenborough, clarinet, Rebecca Rivera, bassoon) who premiered it in Glendale (Los Angeles), California, USA, in March 2017. Because the piece swings like a Venetian barcarola, and is dedicated to a trio of women, its name quite logically winks at the famous novel by Jerome K. Jerome. This short piece was specially composed for Icelandic violinist Eva Ingolf who premiered it during a concert in New York City, in February 2014. One year later, in February 2015, Romanian violinist Daniel Mihai played the same pieces in Constanţa, Romania, as Eva Ingolf had done in NYC one year earlier. Troll party is inspired by an imaginary playlet, with a bunch of dwarf trolls frolicking over the moors in the moonlight. For a while, they join another group of their peers who are dancing frantically. The playlet ends at dawn, with the dwarves jumping into the cave where they reside.
