Jean-Pierre Vial composed this piano concerto between 2007 and 2011. The concerto consists of four movements, with two lively movements surrounding a slower movement and a brief scherzo. The first movement, allegro ma non troppo, is based on two main themes. Both themes are initially exposed, the first one in the main key (or tonality) of G minor and the second one in the key of the dominant. Then both themes are developed in their original four-beat rhythm. After a short cadenza (specified ad libitum), the themes are then developed in a ternary rhythm. The movement ends with a tutti based on the initial theme in its original rhythm. The second movement, andante cantabile, is based on a single, lyrical and swinging theme, in the homonym key of G major. The development includes two series of large piano arpeggios that surround a short cadenza (also specified ad libitum). The second series of piano arpeggios concludes the movement. The third movement is a short scherzo, initially in triple time, also based on one main theme (in C major). The movement emphasizes the scherzo concept by developing a number of rhythmic variations of the theme in three-, four-, five- and even seven-beat measures. The finale, allegro vivace, is based on two main themes. After a short introduction that leads back to the main key of G minor, both themes are initially exposed, the first one in the main key and the second one in the relative key of B flat major. Then both themes are developed using numerous syncopations. Further on, the piano introduces a swinging melody that could be analyzed as a third theme. Subsequent developments, however, lead rather to analyzing that melody as a rhythmic motif which will counterpoint the first theme. After developing those two (or three) themes, the finale ends with a tutti based on the initial theme in its original form. In April 2021, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Moldova, with Mihail Agafiţa, conductor, and Diana Voroneţcaia, soloist, premiered this concerto in Chişinău, Moldova. Jean-Pierre Vial composa ce concerto entre 2007 et 2011. Le concerto comprend quatre mouvements, avec deux mouvements vifs encadrant un mouvement lent et un court scherzo. Le premier mouvement, allegro ma non troppo, s'appuie sur deux thèmes principaux. Les deux thèmes sont d'abord exposés, l'un dans le ton principal de sol mineur et l'autre dans le ton de la dominante. Ils sont ensuite développés dans leur rythme d'origine à quatre temps. Après une courte cadence (spécifiée ad libitum), les thèmes sont développés dans un rythme ternaire. Le mouvement se conclut par un tutti sur le thème initial dans son rythme initial. Le deuxième mouvement, andante cantabile, s'appuie sur un unique thème, chantant et dansant, dans le ton homonyme de sol majeur. Le développement comprend deux séries de larges arpèges au piano qui encadrent une brève cadence (elle aussi spécifée ad libitum). La seconde série d'arpèges conclut le mouvement. Le troisième mouvement est un bref scherzo, initialement à trois temps, qui s'appuie aussi sur un seul thème (en ut majeur). Le caractère de scherzo est souligné par un grand nombre de variations rythmiques du thème, utilisant des mesures à trois, quatre, cinq et même sept temps. Le finale, allegro vivace, s'appuie sur deux thèmes principaux. Après une brève introduction qui ramène au ton principal de sol mineur, les deux thèmes sont d'abord exposés, l'un dans le ton principal et l'autre dans le ton relatif de si bémol majeur. Ils sont ensuite développés de façon très syncopée. Plus loin, le piano introduit une mélodie dansante qui pourrait s'analyser comme un troisième thème. Cependant, les développements ultérieurs montrent que cette mélodie s'analyse plutôt comme un motif rhytmique venant en contrepoint du premier thème. Après les développements de ces deux (ou trois) thèmes, le finale se conclut par un tutti sur le thème initial dans sa forme initiale. En avril 2021, l'Orchestre National Philharmonique de Moldavie, sous la direction de Mihail Agafiţa, avec en soliste la pianiste Diana Voroneţcaia, a enregistré ce concerto en première mondiale à Chişinău (Moldavie).
