Happy Birthday

for Wind Ensemble, in C major	pour Orchestre d'Harmonie, en ut majeur
Jean-Pierre Vial composed this piece for a large wind ensemble in 2016. The piece is inspired by the popular song “Happy Birthday.” It borrows the song rhythm, and makes more and more allusive references to its theme, with varying the instrumentation till the end of the piece. The score (published by Musicalion) requires a piccolo, two flutes, two oboes, three Bb clarinets, a bass clarinet, two bassoons, four saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone), two French horns, three Bb trumpets, two trombones, a bass trombone, a euphonium, a tuba, and a percussion set with a xylophone, a triangle, crash cymbals and a snare drum. Elle en emprunte le rythme, et fait progressivement de nombreuses allusions au thème de la chanson, tout en variant l'instrumentation jusqu'à la fin de la pièce.
