Haloing Fantasia

This piece was composed in 2012 for the Parhelion trio (Sarah Carrier, alto flute, Crystal Gloria Medina, clarinet, and Andrea Christie, piano). In this piece, chromaticism can suggest the pallid and polychromatic light of a halo (or of a parhelion). The Parhelion trio performed this piece twice in New York city, with a premiere in June 2012, and an encore on January 2013. Cette pièce a été composée en 2012 pour le trio Parhelion (Sarah Carrier à la flûte alto, Crystal Gloria Medina à la clarinette, et Andrea Christie au piano). Elle cherche à évoquer, par son chromatisme, la lumière blafarde du phénomène météorologique de parhélie (“parhelion”, en anglais), sorte de halo lumineux polychromatique. Les anglicistes remarqueront que son titre joue sur les mots, “Haloing Fantasia” (fantaisie pour un halo) se prononçant à peu près comme “Halloween Fantasia” (fantaisie pour Halloween) en anglais. Le trio Parhelion a interprété deux fois cette pièce à New York (USA), une première fois en juin 2012, puis en janvier 2013.
